Dr Sebastian Zeki is a Consultant Gastroenterologist seeing private patients in central London, with particular expertise in acid reflux, Barrett's oesophagus, swallowing difficulties, eosinophilic oesophagitis and early cancer detection and treatment, as well as general gastroenterological conditions. He is one of a small number of London consultants personally delivering advanced reflux diagnostics alongside JAG‑accredited endoscopy.
Dr Zeki investigates and treats the full range of upper and lower gastrointestinal conditions. The most common reasons for referral are listed below.
Burning, regurgitation, night‑time symptoms, or reflux that persists despite medication — including silent reflux affecting the throat and voice.
Expert surveillance and, where needed, endoscopic treatment of the pre‑cancerous change that long‑standing reflux can cause.
Food sticking, painful swallowing, or the sense that something is not passing normally — investigated with endoscopy and high‑resolution manometry.
An increasingly common allergic condition of the oesophagus causing food impaction and swallowing difficulty, particularly in younger adults.
Bloating, altered bowel habit, discomfort and irritable bowel syndrome — investigated carefully, explained clearly, managed sympathetically.
How food reactions affect the gut, and how to separate true allergy from intolerance and other causes of symptoms.
Rapid investigation of alarm symptoms, endoscopic diagnosis, and minimally invasive endoscopic resection of early cancers.
Gastroscopy, colonoscopy, BRAVO wireless pH monitoring, pH‑impedance and high‑resolution manometry.
Persistent reflux and swallowing symptoms are best managed with objective physiological testing, so that treatment is directed at the underlying cause. Dr Zeki personally performs and interprets the following investigations.
A capsule placed painlessly at gastroscopy measures acid exposure for up to 96 hours — no tube, normal daily life, and the highest diagnostic yield for unproven reflux.
Detects both acid and non‑acid reflux and links episodes to your symptoms — essential when tablets haven't worked or the diagnosis is in doubt.
Maps the pressures of every swallow to diagnose motility disorders such as achalasia and oesophageal spasm, and to plan any anti‑reflux surgery safely.
Dr Zeki is a consultant gastroenterologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and an honorary senior clinical lecturer at King's College London. He trained at Cambridge and UCL, completed a PhD in the genomics of oesophageal cancer, and undertook advanced training in Cambridge and Tokyo.
He performs gastroscopy and colonoscopy in JAG‑accredited endoscopy units, including endoscopic diagnosis and resection of early cancers, and aims to make every consultation unhurried and clear.
